This is by far one of the most time consuming page from my AHM#7 fill-in pages. By the time I finished the page, I had to put my finger on ice for couple of hours before I could continue to the next page.
The initial idea came from the scenes in Dawn of the Dead when waves of zombies rushing to try to get to the survivors' armored buses. I remember seeing those shots gave me a sense of almost desperate, hopelessness. I wanted to have similar effect, and I was thinking about tons of cockroaches pushing on top of each other trying to get through a wall.
The first layout looked terrible, it had a higher camera angle, and the Swarm were rather static. doesn't seem to do it for me or the editor. So I tried a little tweak on camera angle and it seems a little easier to manage.
The WIP piece on the left is pretty much as far as I got on the penciling stage. I went straight to ink and gave them detail on the fly. I thought that might add a bit more chaos in the image.
It's really my thumb, I probably hold the pen too tight without knowing it. The pain goes away after a day. It's of of my occupational hazard that I have to put up.
loved the detail!
nice job
