Just how well, Bay decided to make a completely new set of twins and decided to make a Sideswipe but...not Sunstreaker. I mean, don't get me wrong I loved the twins and I loved Sunstreaker but. It's heart breaking that Bay would break apart something or that everybody had gotten to know and love, the REAL transformer twins.
More liquid metal awesomeness from Mr. Su - how do you do it?!?
Love this design. I mean, really, really love it. If Ironhide had shown up in the 2007 movie looking like this, I'd have been a happy man! It's a superb, inventive take on the character, and I love how you've pushed the 'robot' element to the max while still keeping him recognisable.
I actually really enjoyed the character designs for the 2007 movie. I know there's a lot of negative response to them from some die-hard fans, but, hey...vive la differance!
Funnily enough, I was just saying to one of my watchers how movie Ironhide is a real masterstroke. I love the way he's been rebuilt from the ground up, right down to his new characterisation as a trigger happy, irritable jock.
I am on the fence on some of the designs in the movie, but I don't really hate it. Some of the robot looks really together, with nice forms and everything, but some just seem like a jumble mess of mechanical parts.
I know what you mean - they're a mixed bag. But then, to me, that's always been a big part of Transformers' appeal - the way everybody looks different, how they all hive varied shapes and sizes... it all adds to that aspect of it that fans can decide who their favourites are, and plays into people's ideas of what cool sci-fi robots look like.
I always liked the idea that Transformers, being alien, should look COMPLETELY alien in every guise. So, perhaps there's no need for the humanoid robot forms. When I was younger, I used to read a lot of sci-fi novels where the authors had carefully conceptualised the forms that alien life might take. Peter F. Hamilton springs to mind - he was particularly good at suggesting alien life forms that were utterly alien in appearance. So we had tripods, cephalopods, lizards - you name it, he took an angle on it.
So, I guess, I've always been into the idea that your average Transformer might have a completely alien 'natural' form. It could change from whatever mode it found useful in Transformer-land into whatever it found useful.
Yup - that would be me getting my geek on, right there.
I'd buy that for sure! [Arnie Voice] C'Maaaaan! [/Arnie Voice]. Seriously tho - it'd be a TF bible of mechanical goodness. It'd a great reference art book. talking of which - really looking forward to the TFA Allspark Almanac
