Mecha Ironide by EJ-Su Mecha Ironide by EJ-Su
Yet another industrialized Transformers. again, it's more based on the original cartoon, but somewhat between the cartoon and the live action movie style.

That's an awsome design you gave to it ^^
And I have to agree with ~Mighty-Griffon they should have more gone in this sort of direction than Bay's way. But aw well...great job again XD

Really? Well it's true. Unfortunatly only Optimus and sorta bumblebee looked like their original selves.

Yeah, I agree with you, I really wished that they would look a little bit more like their original self. Oh well.

Yeah but I think what was really the most heart breaking was the twin theory...

Just how well, Bay decided to make a completely new set of twins and decided to make a Sideswipe but...not Sunstreaker. I mean, don't get me wrong I loved the twins and I loved Sunstreaker but. It's heart breaking that Bay would break apart something or that everybody had gotten to know and love, the REAL transformer twins.

That's true. I guess he needed the twins to be useless comic relief, the way I see it, I wouldn't want the Lambo twins to be portrait THAT way if you know what I mean.

Aww! Super sweet dude! Really cooool. I really dig the expression and general mechanical design awesomeness!

So, when are you going to do a full body shot in this style? ~_~ :D

I love it - it's still clearly recognizable as "Ironhide", and at the same time it does look realistic enough for a live action movie!
Now I would like to see a Starscream done with this style ;)

Very Nice. I really like the look. Animated is fine and all, but if they were ever going to push for more robotic designs (or even a reboot of the G1 Universe), I'd totally root for this look.

Awesome! Did you design this in order to have a mouth that opens and closes, or would his face kinda shift around when he speaks like movie BB or Blackout?

I think just shifts around, or just have light flashing inside the mouse area.

You're welcome. I'm really fond of your TF designs, it inspires me to do a design as well, but I don't really have the skill level of doing mech stuff. Haha

More liquid metal awesomeness from Mr. Su - how do you do it?!?

Love this design. I mean, really, really love it. If Ironhide had shown up in the 2007 movie looking like this, I'd have been a happy man! It's a superb, inventive take on the character, and I love how you've pushed the 'robot' element to the max while still keeping him recognisable.

Thanks.

There are some movie design elements that I really liked, but I don't think they ever intended for the movie to make you remember the cartoon.

I actually really enjoyed the character designs for the 2007 movie. I know there's a lot of negative response to them from some die-hard fans, but, hey...vive la differance! :)

Funnily enough, I was just saying to one of my watchers how movie Ironhide is a real masterstroke. I love the way he's been rebuilt from the ground up, right down to his new characterisation as a trigger happy, irritable jock.

'Bad Mojo!' :D

I am on the fence on some of the designs in the movie, but I don't really hate it. Some of the robot looks really together, with nice forms and everything, but some just seem like a jumble mess of mechanical parts.

I know what you mean - they're a mixed bag. But then, to me, that's always been a big part of Transformers' appeal - the way everybody looks different, how they all hive varied shapes and sizes... it all adds to that aspect of it that fans can decide who their favourites are, and plays into people's ideas of what cool sci-fi robots look like.

I always liked the idea that Transformers, being alien, should look COMPLETELY alien in every guise. So, perhaps there's no need for the humanoid robot forms. When I was younger, I used to read a lot of sci-fi novels where the authors had carefully conceptualised the forms that alien life might take. Peter F. Hamilton springs to mind - he was particularly good at suggesting alien life forms that were utterly alien in appearance. So we had tripods, cephalopods, lizards - you name it, he took an angle on it.

So, I guess, I've always been into the idea that your average Transformer might have a completely alien 'natural' form. It could change from whatever mode it found useful in Transformer-land into whatever it found useful.

Yup - that would be me getting my geek on, right there. :D

Well, don't make a huge, expensive book then... but I for one would buy a pretty decent (little) sketchbook ;) And I know a few people here in Spain who would be interested as well.

Btw, have you decided how much you'd charge for prints and original art?

:)
